WebP privacy cleanup

WebP Metadata Remover

WebP files can include EXIF device and location data or XMP creator and editing fields alongside still or animated image content. This cleaner removes those supported metadata chunks and repairs the WebP feature flags without decoding the image.

01

EXIF and XMP removed

Supported WebP EXIF and XMP chunks are excluded from the clean copy and reported by category.

02

Animation stays animated

Image, alpha, frame, timing, and animation chunks are preserved rather than flattened into one still frame.

03

Valid container rebuilt

The RIFF size and extended-format metadata flags are updated so the resulting WebP remains internally consistent.

Important limit

This version targets standard EXIF and XMP chunks in WebP. It does not promise removal of every proprietary payload an application might hide in an unknown custom chunk.

Questions & boundaries

Know exactly what the clean copy means.

File formats are messy. These answers describe the supported behavior of this version—not a promise that every trace everywhere has disappeared.

01Will an animated WebP keep moving?

Yes. Animation and frame chunks are preserved; only supported EXIF and XMP metadata chunks are removed.

02Will WebP transparency survive?

Yes. Alpha information is part of the image content and is kept.

03Does the tool convert WebP to another format?

No. The cleaned download remains a WebP file and the encoded image content is not recompressed.
