PNG Metadata Remover

PNG files do not use only classic EXIF. They can also store textual tEXt, zTXt, and iTXt chunks containing comments, software names, Stable Diffusion parameters, or complete workflows. This tool removes those metadata chunks locally.

What happens locally

A focused cleaner, not a black box.

01

AI workflow cleanup

Text chunks used for prompts, parameters, comments, and workflow data are removed rather than copied into the cleaned file.

02

Color and alpha preserved

Pixel data, transparency, ICC/sRGB information, and animation chunks remain intact.

03

C2PA container support

Supported PNG caBX Content Credentials containers are detected and removed.

Important limit

Text chunks can also contain useful descriptions, accessibility text, copyright notices, or license data. The cleaned copy removes them, so keep the original when those records matter.

Questions & boundaries

Know exactly what the clean copy means.

File formats are messy. These answers describe the supported behavior of this version—not a promise that every trace everywhere has disappeared.

01Can a PNG contain a Stable Diffusion prompt?

Yes. Some tools save generation parameters or workflows in PNG text chunks. AI MetaClean removes those removable chunks.

02Is PNG metadata the same as EXIF?

Not always. PNG supports EXIF but also has several native text and time chunks, plus optional XMP and provenance containers.

03Will transparency be lost?

No. The cleaner preserves the PNG image and alpha data without re-rendering the file.
